E-mail: Janice Gregory Notes: Happy Fall Ya'll!!

For the weeks of October 1 - 17, 2008

General announcements:

  • FRIDAY, November 14th  NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS
  • 2nd quarter progress reports go home WEDNESDAY, November 19th
  • contact Mrs. Gregory via email:  janicegregory@wakechristianacademy.com
  • Assignments missed due to absences must be made up in a timely manner, refer to student handbook.
  • Parents, please remember to sign your student's agenda any day there is homework.  Students who do not have their parent's signature have to move their number :(
  • Being able to follow directions is a critical skill.  Help your child practice this skill by giving them specific directions to follow, and then making sure they do it EXACTLY.

Math

  • As we get into more complex operations, neatness becomes essential.  Many students make errors simple because they can't read their own writing.  Try doing homework assignments on regular graph paper.  Use one small square per digit.  This helps keep students' work tidy.
  • Parents, please help your child by drilling the basic math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication & division) with them.  As we progress, it will become more difficult for students to keep up if they still need to calculate simple facts by using their fingers, or counting.

Reading

  • AR home connect is now available.  Check it out. . .see how your child is doing.  All students are required to take at least 1 AR test by Wednesday, October 15.
  • Friday, November 14 is the deadline for November's FIRST AR book.  Students are required to read a minimum of 2 books each month, AND PASS the AR tests for the books..
  • We are currently reading the book "The Secret of the Golden Cowrie"  by Gloria Repp.  All reading is being done IN CLASS.  Students may not take copiesof the book home.  It's a great story. . .ask your child about it.
