• Student Assignments.
  • Test 8 will be a paper due Before Thanksgiving Break on an element or compound.  See attached guidelines document. (This was provided as a handout in class.  Bonus points for early turn in..)
  • An optonal paper with identical requirements may be turned in up to Dec 12th for approximately 10-15 bonus points on a test. 
  • SG 10.1 is due 19  Nov 
  • SG 10.2 is due 21 Nov
  • SG 10.3 (mine) is due 25 Nov
  • Test 10 will be on 2 Nov
• Lesson Plans
  • Chapter 10 demonstrations include:  dye in hot vs colde water burn paper w hot steam boil water at room temperature and put boiling wax into water (boom!).
  • Key Concepts:  Kintic Theory, specific heat, Heat of Fusion, heat of vaporization, Energy gain and loss, terms at the of the chapter, phase diagrams, Kelvin Scale, C to K conversions, definitions of boiling (several) the energy curve.
  • Labs.  We will do a dry ice lab, but probably will not get to it before the test.  Dry ice will be used for several demos that day, (Mg + CO2 --> MgO? + C ) and the triple point of Carbon dioxide.. Students will then take the CO2 to see it as a liquid.
