This week’s High School Student Spotlight is on Joseph Kelly. Joseph is a senior at WCA, and a leader on the team that was ranked 13th in the state division. One of his most impressive games this year came from a game against Durham Academy. Joseph had an impressive bicycle kick and connected on a 50-yard assist to junior Casey Brady for the goal. Joseph has played Varsity Soccer his entire high school career and has worked very hard to achieve the success that he has. Sophomore Landon Jensen says, “Joseph Kelly is a leader on the team both vocally and physically. He works hard when nobody else wants to and encourages his teammates to do the same.”
This past summer Joseph went on a mission’s trip with a team from Catawba Springs Christian Church. He says that this trip, “opened his eyes to how the world lives and how blessed we are.” Joseph’s love for Christ is evident and he takes this to the soccer field as well. He says that he tries to play the game to the best of his ability to glorify God.
Joseph excels in the classroom, as he boasts a 3.9 GPA. His plans after college are to attend Liberty University and double major as an industrial and computer engineer. Joseph’s life verse is Psalm 27:14, “Wait for the LORD; be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD.” This is the mindset that Joseph tries to take both in his athletic and academic endeavors.
